Lee makes and sells his own equipment so he has a vested interest in running this press down i would suppose. Dont get me wrong, I have seen Lees equipment and its good for beginners as well. But even his equipment is not professional and is easy to build yourself with minimal effort and expense. Lee claims to have invented on screen micro tuners. I am sure that he thinks he did, but other people have claimed they made used them 20 years before Lee claims he invented them. I believe that Lee actually thinks he invented them but as most people know its hard to invent something that hasnt already been done by someone else before you.
Lee is very knowledgeable and has many years experience and anyone who buys his stuff can benefit from that knowledge. So you get some major tech support when you buy from Lee. But Lee is not the only way to go and you certainly dont need his equipment to get started.
You can build your own one color press from scrap wood in a couple of hours that will print one color jobs just as good as any expensive pro press. I built 2 recently. one cost about $21 (I had most of the scrap wood i needed). the other cost about $7 (yes SEVEN) and as i said it will print great.
the benefit of lees press is you can print multi color work. well what he doesnt tell you is you can do that on any one color press by printing onto transfer paper then heat pressing & hot peeling your shirt. there are many CHEAP ways to skin a cat in screen printing. check youtube for very cheap ways to get started. you can build all your own equipment & even use an old cooking oven to cure your printed shirts.
